KSBO is back
One
of the original UK MMA formats - KSBO - is back on November
23rd. " Knockdown Sport Budo is the oldest form of
Limited Rules fighting in the UK, and probably Europe.
The KSBO has been in existence in one form or another
since the early 1980Õs. Many other tournaments and Championships
have been held, but KSBO is the one which offers both
novice and senior sections in amateur limited rules fighting.
KSBO gives the opportunity for young up-and-coming fighters
to progress and has offered a stepping stone for many
of this country's mixed martial arts stars today. Fighters
who have fought in KSBO have competed in competitions
throughout the world, including even the Ultimate Fighting
Championship..."
Plus
the KSBO Groundfighting Championships return on
2 November. For more info, rules and application forms

Combat
Sports National Championship
The
Amateur British Titles are on the line once again as the
Combat Sports National Championship returns for 2002!
The Combat Sports events are infamous in the Mixed-Martial
Arts community, especially for their 'Open Trials' events,
and have been featured in martial arts magazines such
as Combat and Martial Arts Illustrated. Now it's time
for the best of the best to face off for the British Titles!
The British Titles will be up for grabs in the Light,
Middle and Light-heavyweight divisions. All of the competitors
in the event have previously earnt their place with successful
performances in the Combat Sports Open Trials earlier
this year, so the standard and caliber of the fighters
is extremely high! Each of the Titles will be fought through
an 8-man knock-out tournament, with each fight consisting
of two 4-minute rounds. The winner in each category will
take away the British Title, Title Belt, prize money and
national recognition. For more details, or to order tickets,
please contact: ML SPORTS - Tel (01225) 359666, e-mail:
info@mlsports.co.uk or get information and order tickets
on-line at: www.mlsports.co.uk - Also BAMMA

MMA News : Cage Wars 4
Cage
Wars 4 will be in Belfast early next year. It will follow
the completion of the movie being shot here, a kind of
wrap party. The movie will be finished mid to late Feb
and the show will be a day later. Cage Wars 5 will be
a truly international event as the show will be going
over seas to Florida for its first international outing.
This will be the first UK show to do this and we are really
excited by the prospect. Once everything is nailed down
I will release the details. We will be looking for a select
team to face the yanks in America Vs The World but again
I will let everyone know when I need their info. Cage
Wars 3 is in the next edition of Gong thanks to Manabu
who is now a big fan of the show. I have seen a few copies
and it is a very impressive magazine. Todd Hester has
just released the grappling Mag edition featuring CW2
with some wicked pics from Bill Curry and of course he
will be covering CW3 also. UK MMA is getting a great showing
overseas and that has to be good for the sport. See also

gym of fighters that need my time more than the promoting
game (leave it to the old boys) myself and Dougie came

letting you know this is so there are no vicious tale
to be slung about on the forum as we know there is enough
wars going on at the moment. Everybody knows myself and
Dee have done some great MMA shows over the last 3 years
but now its time to start doing some of the things that
I enjoy teaching and training dougie will be promoting

a promoter needs and everybody should still support him

Weight
Loss Basics
"Let's
say that again. Calorie intake must be less than caloric
output. For your body to burn fat, what goes out, must
be more than goes in. Great you think, I'll just starve
myself. No such luck I'm afraid. Your body still thinks
you're a caveman. You stop giving it food, it thinks,
no food, conserve energy, hold fat stores it doesn't know
you have a fridge full of cheesecake. Worst part is, instead
of eating fat it will eat lean muscle."...article

"Daz
then asked everyone to start working on the ground for
submissions, but only of one type, for example he would
say, only chokes, and that is what you had to do, keep
rolling and working, looking for a choke, nothing else
counted. Then it was figure fours only, followed by, arm
bars only. Finally, it was anything goes and time to get
stuck in. ...."A visit to Batley's Fighting Chance

a man down, until someone else counted him as finished,
didn't prove you had really beaten him. After all, he
could get up fresh, and continue.Make him SUBMIT, and
there was no argument as to who had won .. So submissions
became the norm, at the expense of pins....." - new

Unfortunately
promoter Paddy Mooney was recovering from an operation
and didn't see his creation take another large step forward.
The venue was packed and importantly, from what we could
gather, with many people new to MMA. This sport is growing.
The show was left in good hands and very well run by promoter
Andy & Delia Foreman and Dougie Truman. We'll have
results and report up soon. Thanks to the Foreman's for
the hospitality and get well soon Paddy. The next Cage

Dana
White v Frank Warren
In
the June 2002 issue of Front Magazine, British boxing
promoter Frank Warren had some disparaging things to say
about Mixed Martial Arts.
ÒI
bet certain members of the public would buy a ticket for
a public hanging. Extreme fighters wouldnÕt last five
minutes with a proper, schooled boxer. Boxing is an art,
a way of life. That ultimate fighting stuff is for guys
who chuck steroids down there neck, pump weights in the
gym and get out of breath after a couple of minutes. I
hope it doesnÕt catch on,Ó says Warren.
UFC
President Dana White issued this response to Front
Magazine regarding WarrenÕs statement:
ÒAs
a respected British boxing promoter, Frank Warren is certainly
entitled to his opinion. But, he is dead wrong. The fighters
who fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship are the
best in the world. UFC fighters are world-class athletes
who train much harder every day than boxers would even
think of training. We will be in London July 13th at the
Royal Albert Hall. Tell Warren to get his fighters ready,
guys like Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Hatton, Harry Simon, and
Anthony Farnell, or anyone else he thinks can handle us,
and IÕll have mine ready in the same weight division.
We will put together a fight between any two, and IÕll
bet him $50,000 (34,483 pounds sterling) even money on
the outcome.Ó

Warren put his money where his mouth is? - UFC. 17 May

UKMMAC
III + Vids
UKMMACIII
is under negotiations with managers of a few venues in
and around kent. UKMMAC is hiring a larger venue due to
the popularity of the sport with a few venues in mind
that can accomadate this sport with the space and comfort
for fans and fighters both.
UKMMAC boasts great conditions for fighters , we have
also introduced the fps(fighters payment scheme) to our
shows, allowing fighters to earn a fair wage according
to there popularity , this method is the first to be used
in mma shows and is being used to;
(1)
promote fighters to the fans (2) give every fighter the
same conditions eg ; minimum travel fee ,+ nominated ticket
commission/ticket commission sales.
Basically we give £5 commission per ticket 700 seats x
commission =£3500. Fighters earn commission by selling
tickets or being nominated for commission whilst being
sold from other ticket outlets. This way we feel that
we can push the fans to be familiarised with the fighters
by asking them who they would like to nominate there ticket
money to we will only be paying purses acording to a fighters
popularity. We are hoping to have big screens for the
upcoming event with a complete table+chairs filled hall
making the spectators as comfortable as possible UKMMACIII
is pushing for a date around september and is proud to
boast a fightcard with up and coming mma stars with established
competitors, with competitors from around the globe as
on previous ukmmac events this event will be professionally
filmed and released on video through major outlets any
