  • -85kg : Jess Liaduin def Dave Ives by figure four toe hold early in the 1st round to become -85 Champ.

Another good event by Paul Lloyd Davies. Unfortunately the audience was a little on the low side (around 100 people), possibly due to this event being cancelled earler and re-scheduled.

However the organisation is good, the rules are good and it's a great place for fighters to gain experience. The rules are similar to Fred Rado's Light Pancrase - No head shots.

Round 1

- 70kg: Dave McLaughlin def Jean Noel Charollais (France), by rear naked choke R1.

Dangerous Dave dominated his French opponent, landing multiple elbows to the body and arms whilst in the half guard. McLaughlin went for a keylock, the more elbows, forcing Charollais to roll and letting Dave get the rear choke. Easy win for one of MMA's nice guys.

- 85kg : James Lewis def John Hales - Hales DQ'ed for punch to the head.

These two gentlemen looked the least experienced of the fighters in the show. Lewis the better takedown artist, whilst the rangey Hales was marginally the better striker. Lewis nearly got an armbar but Hales escaped and they returned on their feet. Hales then get's DQ'ed for a punch to the head. Unlucky and unitentional. Better luck next time guys.

-70kg : Ryan Houghton def Rob Hannis by judges decision.

Round one. Good matchup. The experience of fighting Chris Milward last weekend must have paid off for Hannis who looked far more confident in this outing. Hannis looked the stronger in the first round, taking Ryan down but spending most of the round in Houghton's guard. However Houghton was the only one going for subs and nearly sunk a triangle, kneebar and choke in succession. Typical Colleseum style :)

The Second round - Hannis tires and Houghton spends most of this round mounted on Rob and raining down strikes on Rob's arms. Ryan Houghton wins by JD. Rob Hannis deserves a special mention for running around organising this event, not and easy job at all. Well done Rob.

-85kg: Dave Ives def Martyn Rowland by guillotine R1.

Dave Ives gets a strong guillotine whilst forcing Rowland to the ropes. Rowland doesn't tap and is choked out! He comes round immediately. Quick and impressive win for Ives.

- 70kg: Luke Cole def Ian Cox, rear naked choke R1.

Fast and nervey, these two looked liked a couple of whippets LOL. Cox scoring a couple of takedowns and getting mount. However in a scramble, Cole gets Cox's back and manages to sink a rear naked choke. Good win for Cole - it would be good to see more of him, and another unlucky loss for Cox.

-85kg: Guy Stainthorp def Alexandre LeCardonnel (France) by neck crank R1.

Stainthorp looking by far the stronger physically of the two dominated this short fight. He gets the takedown and mount and scores strikes freely before moving to side control and getting a tap out by neck crank from scarf hold - Coleman stylee.

- 70kg : Johnny Cage def Carl Cunningham by guillotine R1.

Cunningham looked strong and appeared to be the better grappler, but Cage defended the takedowns well. After a brief exchange of leglocks they return to stand up. Cage manages to get an unusual figure four guillotine to win by tap out.

Round 2

- 70kg: Dave McLaughlin def Ryan Houghton by ankle lock R1.

Dave just oozed experience here. Ryan again works the guard (and a very good one too). They both go for ankle lock rolling around the mat until Dave gets out and gets mount. McLauglin jumps into a strong ankle lock giving Houghton not choice but to tap. No surprise that Dave's got 5 years of Sambo under his belt.

-85kg : Dave Ives def James Lewis by triangle R1

James gets an early takedown and lands on Dave's guard. Nice use of the spider guard as Ive's pulls out a sneaky triangle and gets the tap out.

jess liaduin v guy stainthorp

Jess Liaduin Triangles Guy Stainthorp

-85kg : Jess Liaduin def Guy Stainthorp by triangle R1

Two of the strongest looking fighters. Jess works the guard and gets a triangle early in the first round. Easy win for Liaduin.

-70kg : Johnny Cage def Luke Cole - Cole taps out from a barrage of body shots

Lots of striking from both guys. The taller Johnny getting the upper hand by landing a barrage of knees from the clinch, forcing Cole into the corner. Cage rains down the knees and body punches and Cole taps out.

Final Round

-85kg : Jess Liaduin def Dave Ives by figure four toe hold early in the 1st round to become -85 Champ.

Jess forces Ives against the ropes, where Ives puts on another very strong looking guillotine. This is looking like a repeat of Dave's 1st fight, as Jess seems to spend forever in the choke. However Liaduin is relaxed, escapes and slams Ives to the mat landing in Dave's guard. Jess reaches back for the heel hook and finally gets a figure 4 toe hold to get the submission. Cornered by Fred Rado and Paul Hines, Jess looks hard to beat in this weight class now.

-70kg : Dave Mclauglin def Johnny Cage by rear naked choke in the 1st round to become -70 Champ

Johnny Cage gets in early punches and knees but Dave counters with a single leg. Dave goes for the ankle lock, Cage escapes and returns to standup and scores strikes again. However McLaughlin is clearly the better grappler and takes Cage down, gets side control, mount - Cage turns to give up his back and Dave gets a rear choke to win.

The KSBO deserves to get better support. It's a good format, the rules were clear and all the decisions spot on.

Thanks to Paul Lloyd Davies for his hospitality. Thanks to Rob Hannis for the hard work organising this event and see you at the next one.
