RESULTS
Thank
you to everyone who participated and watched at the 3rd Ren Bu Kai Submission
Wrestling and Amateur MMA Championships on 25 September 2004. It was good to see
so many people make the effort to attend. Unfortunately the Nigerian team did
not get their visas through in time to come which was a shame. With the last fight
finishing at 6.30 pm it was a long day and we have learned for future comps to
have 2 mat areas (which was the plan but were let down with referees) and maybe
put the Sub Wrestling and MMA events on different dates. Congratulations to all
who fought as everyone that took part was a winner. Thank you so much to the coaches,
thanks to Mark Wilson and Bev Hanlon for doing some refereeing, Jackie, Sue, Nerys,
Suzanne and Linzi for help on timekeeping and table judging. Well done Carl Barber
who spent the whole day on the balcony videoing the event and taking the photos.
Also thanks to Alex O Callahan for bringing down some MMA merchandise to sell.
Overall
a brilliant day with a terrific atmosphere and some excellent skills from the
fighters. One person I have to comment on is Kaz Mitzushi from Ground and Pound
Academy who got the crowd going with some entertaining moves. He came on to his
first fight against Clint Hampson encircling him, then went down to the ground
to do a press up and demonstrate a few techniques which had the crowd and myself
who was refereeing the fight, amazed at his calmness, then went on to take down
his opponent, winning all six of his fights to take the gold medal.
