Rob ‘’the Dutchman’’ Kaman & SFUK Holland World Champion and superhero for lots of people. Rob Kaman, the retired Muay Thai Fighter that made Holland famous because of his wins and because of his style. He fought all over the world and is still active in the scene, almost every good MMA event I always pick some faces immediately out of the crowd, one of them is for sure: Rob Kaman. I interviewed this legend at the Beverwijk Explosion Show 27th of may. SFUK Holland: As I asked on the forum who would you like to see in a interview they all commanded me to to Rob Kaman. Do you have the time right now? Rob Kaman : Yes sure! SFUK Holland: What are you doing at the moment right now? Rob Kaman : I am working on a homevideo to teach the basics of kickboxing to kids, it contains more detail and more information than the tapes recorded a few years ago. I am still acting in movies, right now in Russia. And I am working on my own movie, I would like to produce! SFUK Holland: Are those movies action / MA style? Rob Kaman : Yes, action and martail art movies only. SFUK Holland: Do these videos come out in Europe? Rob Kaman : Yes, on VHS only. SFUK Holland: Do you have any students than will rock the scene soon? Rob Kaman : I don’t run a gym myself, Andre Mannaart is doing that. I train all over the world and I give seminars. I like to teach. SFUK Holland: Who was an example for you in Muay Thai? Rob Kaman : I had a lot, but Lucien Carbin was THE man for me.
Rob Kaman : I don’t have a great idol for MMA, I just like the guys who can fight standing and in the ground game. If you can play both and you can combine it then you are a good fighter. SFUK Holland: With the 2h2h show you came in with the Golden Glory team. Do you have something to do with them? Training or coaching maybe? Rob Kaman : No, I handed the torch over as a symbol of giving the old fighting spirit together with Ramon Dekker to a new generation of fighters, the GG team. SFUK Holland: What do you think of Golden Glory? And the fact the PRIDE fighters of GG lost all three? Rob Kaman : I think it is a good team, well rounded. They will have to work hard to get on the top and to stay there. It won’t be easy but I think they can do it! SFUK Holland: What is the secret of the Dutch heavyweights? Rob Kaman : We have a kickboxing background, that means condition and strength are very important and we work on that very hard. We changed into a new world, MMA. We were/are in front of the rest with our skills. And our fighting spirit is good! SFUK Holland: What did you do to handle the pre-nerves for a fight? Rob Kaman : Just do other things and don’t think about fighting. SFUK Holland: What is the best fight you ever had? Rob Kaman : Ernesto Hoost, definitely. Everybody thought I was ready to retire and that I could not make it! And I did make it. I won from Hoost and showed the world who I was! SFUK Holland: Thanks for the interview Rob!
