Carl Fisher : Is this your first time in Abu Dhabi?

John Olav Einemo : Yes it is - we took a flight from Oslo to Amsterdam and had to wait eight and a half hours then we arrived here this morning.

How did you make it into the last sixteen John?

John Olav Einemo : Marko Leisten recommended me and he sent away a video of me and I was invited over.

What was the last tournament you entered John?

John Olav Einemo : It was an NHB event in Finland called Finnfight on 2nd December which I won and before that I entered the Bad Boy Cup in Gothenburg in Sweden, but there were only two other fighters in my weight division and one of them was from my academy, so it wasn’t a really big competition for me.

What weight division are you in?

John Olav Einemo : I’m in the under 98Kilo division. I have just seen the fight card and I am fighting Rigan Machado. Wow (laughs). I am really looking forward to it.

Who have you been training with in preparation for this tournament?

John Olav Einemo : Mainly the guys in the BJJ Academy in Oslo where I train and we have had some wrestlers from the Norwegian wrestling academy come down for sparring sessions as well. My instructor is Richard Bolenius and I have been training with him also.

What are your thoughts on the Superfight?

John Olav Einemo : I hope Sperry wins.

What’s next after Abu Dhabi?

John Olav Einemo : My next event will be NHB in Finland again. It was planned for the end of May but I think it will be August or something.

Do you think this will elevate your profile onto the world stage?

John Olav Einemo : I certainly hope so. In Norway we haven’t come very far yet but we are training hard and we have many people who are reaching a good level. I have been training six months without the gym for this and for the last two months have been training twice a day for the conditioning - running and cycling in the morning and stretching.

Do you prefer the jacket or not?

John Olav Einemo : I like the jacket as you have so many more techniques to do and the submission wrestling is more to do with the power game.

When did you begin training?

John Olav Einemo : I wrestled when I was ten years old for a couple of years and have been doing normal sports as well, hockey football you know and then got back into ju jitsu about 1999 and am now a blue belt - Richard Bolenius is the highest grade in Norway, he’s purple.

Anything for the fans?

John Olav Einemo : Train hard and just give us some time to evolve and grow and we will make people sit up and take note.

Thanks John

John Olav Einemo : A pleasure
