Tito Ortiz Interview at Weigh in by SFUKU June 28 2001
SFUKU: Tito, you came in a bit overweight and had to cut, what weight do you think youll be at when you step into the Octagon? Tito Ortiz : Ill Probably come in around 212/213 around there. Its not really that bad, I didnt really have to cut weight Ive been eating real good. Its just weight cutting, its normal stuff. Normal guys cut weight to the weight class they wanna be in, its normal, wasnt no big thing. SFUKU: Some of the other guys seemed to be suffering from cutting weight whereas you stepped down off the scales and said "That was easy" Tito Ortiz : I can say its not really tough for me to cut weight, I just make sure I cut it at exactly the time that I need to, theres no need for me to get under the weight at all. I just make the weight exactly that I need to make and get back to my normal weight. Thats all its not a problem, Im always mentally strong in everything I do, my fights, cutting weight, training everything Its just my job and you gotta get used to doing it SFUKU: Do you think that your extra weight is going to make a big difference in the fight? Tito Ortiz : Not at all, I may have what? 10 pounds over him? Its not really that bad at all, he has a lot more length than me but I think the skills gonna be a factor. Well see how much skill he has compared to mine, and its gonna be a quick night I hope. SFUKU: So do you have a prediction Tito Ortiz : It aint going past 2 rounds for sure, for Sure! Aint going past 2 rounds! SFUKU: Zuffa has made a lot of huge announcements including getting the UFC back on Pay Per View, what do you think about all of this? Tito Ortiz : Getting back on PPV, this UFC has grown, were gonna be one of the biggest Mixed Martial Arts Sport events in the world for sure. Ultimate Fighting Championship IS taking over. SFUKU: Have you gotten any "Alone time" with Carmen Electra yet? Tito Ortiz : No. Not at all Im a married man (Note: Titos wife is pretty foxy, he nearly caught me eyeing her up at the press conference, then I realised she was his wife) Its good to have her in the sport though. A recommendation from her kinda says that this is a real sport. Once it gets back on Pay Per View Man, UFCs gonna explode. SFUKU: Tell us a little bit about your training, has that changed for your fight? Tito Ortiz : No Im just training harder, doing a lot more stand up, A lot more Jiu Jitsu. A lot more of everything cause I havent learned to the full extent that I can. Im only about a 80% learning ratio right now and Ive still got 110 to go. Im getting better and better each time and I feel sorry for the guys I fight. SFUKU: Whos the best grappler youve ever come up against? Tito Ortiz : The best Grappler would have to be Frank Shamrock and he barely skimmed away from me when he beat me. Ive gotten a lot better Ive matured a lot and came into my body as a man. That was 2 years ago, Im a man now Im 26 so Ive got a mans strength and Man, like I say, I feel sorry for my opponents. SFUKU: Whos your toughest training partner? Tito Ortiz : My toughest training partner would have to be Ricco Rodriquez cause hes like 240/245 and hes big hes got good Jiu Jitsu, real good stand up and Ive a lot of other good guys. Fabiano, hes tougher than hell, hes light but but hes quick as hell he keeps me always looking, he changes from move to move. I have 2 of the best standup coaches with Colin Oyama and Don House(sp) from Las Vegas. These guys are making me the best and Im here to knock people out. SFUKU: Thanks for the interview and good luck in your fight later Tito Ortiz : Right on, Thank you very much
