Butterbean Interview

Post-K1 debut, 29th June 2003

Interview by Nikuraba

An hour after knocking out Yusuke Fujimoto with a left hook in the opening round of his K-1 debut, I caught up with an unmarked and very jovial Butterbean (real name Eric Esch) for a quick q&a.

SFUK: What did you think of the fight?

I want a couple more fights. I want to fight people who punch more. There's two things that no-one should do to me: don't steal my food and don't kick me.

SFUK: Did the knockout punch really hit him?

Oh it was a very good, very very good connect. I could feel it in my hand. He was very lucky he didn't get back up because I was getting ready to hit him with the big hand. The right hand (holds up his right fist)

SFUK: What was the biggest difference being in with a kicboxer, compared to the boxers you normally fight?

I got kicked (laughs). The kicks were something different. It definately took me a little time to adapt and I thought, hmmn, let's get rid of those kicks. So I figure if I get close and punch hard, then no more kicks.

SFUK: Did you find a difference in the quality of punches coming at you and in the quality of his defence against punches?

Ah, it didn't last long enough to see about the punching. Maybe next time we'll get somebody that punches more and maybe less kicks and it'll be much more exciting.
