  • Fight Name - Widge , long story this one, a few of you guys may remember "THE PICTURE" lol but sadly that's not true lol. OK when I was younger I used to always stand with my hands down my pants, one day my judo coach (Alan Jones) came up with a few names for some of the other kids, I got stuck with Widge, and it has stuck to this day, lol
  • Favourite Food (he's ALWAYS EATING) - lol, I've got loads of favourite foods, I go through stages of liking different things, at the moment its toffee cheesecake :oD

Bio:

Widge Milward : OK, before I start this will be a little hazy, because I don' t know the exact amount of time training in stuff lol, I started doing judo when i was around 6-7 years old, due to the fact that my brother was a judoplayer and I'd been around the judo mat since I was a baby, I did judo for around 7-9 years or something, I also wrestled for a couple of years, not sure but think it was like 12-13yrs old lol (sorry i got a bad memory) then I trained at the Colosseum a few times with my brother, to try something new, but I got to the age of just being a lazy bum, so I stop training, but i got back into it at around 14-15 yrs old, not by my own choice but as a punishment, lol, i had stole some beer from my house and was drinking on the streets lol, and I got caught, so mum took me back to the Colosseum as punishment, and I loved it again, and never looked back lol,

being a fighter? I dunno what made me do it, i had been training a few years and wanted to fight, I didn't know of any amateur comps back then and the XFC came along with novice fights, (still under pro rules) but the fighters had less experience, so I thought what the hell, this will be fun, and wanted to give it a try.

Training program - at the moment my training isn't as good as i would like it to be, as I have to work evenings and I dont have a care, lol, I train at the Colosseum tuesdays, thursdays and sundays and then I do my cardio as well.

We train in Vale Tudo and we work on what we feel we need to improve with, so the classes change every week, but have the same layout, 30mins warm up, 30 mins techniques, 30 mins sparring, we go over everything, from boxing, to submissions, to GnP. so its all good ;op (sorry Karl it had to be done)

Q & A:

SFUK : How do you rate you next opponent, Jon Waite? Wasn't you that coined the nickname "The Paperboy" for him LOL?

Widge Milward : John is a tough fighter, he has good judo skills and I reckon he will be a lot stronger than me, I dont know his submission skills or his standup, but he has a good clinch game, coming from a judo background... as for the Paperboy nickname, I can't take the credit for that, that goes to Danny Wallace, "he just looks like a paperboy, not a fighter" lol then it just stuck.

Any predictions on how that fight will go?

Widge Milward : I'm gonna win of course, lol, I dont know how the fight will go, I have an idea and a gameplan, which I don't wanna give away over the net lol, but whether it comes together is a different story, lol, we will see...

You weight puts you into a hot category in the UK right now, with tough guys like Paul Mcveigh, Chin Weerasinghe and Ricky 'Ninja' Salhan bang in your ballpark. What do you think of those fighters and how do you think you would do against them?

Widge Milward : I rate everyone of these fighters, and IMO I dont think I'm ready just yet to get in the cage with these guys, maybe early next year after I get more experience. Paul and Chin are real cool guys, they had a war... both are very skilled fighters on the floor and are tough as hell, and I know both have been working there standup, I would love to fight these guys in the future, it would be a real test...

As for Ninja!! Wow, his standup is awesome, the guy is an animal, I haven't seen much of his ground game yet though, so I dont know how he would cope on the floor, but I love watching him fight though.

How would you describe your style of fighting?

Widge Milward : erm, I'm a "bum fu" first dan, and a "hamster kung fu" 9th dan, so this means my style is pretty much a submission guy, but i like to hunt the submission, not just wait for it to come to me, lol but I' m trying to work on my boxing and stuff too, so I can become a more well rounded fighter, plus its fun hitting people lol

Is there a fighter out there who you think reflects your style?

Widge Milward : erm, not really, but I try to mold my ground game on guys like Sudo and Sato, but I' m not as crazy as those guys yet.

When is your brother, Chris Milward going to return to MMA and is it true his new fight name is 'Fat'?

Widge Milward : I honestly dont think he is lol, he was toying with the idea a while ago but he is settling down now with his GF etc... but he is getting fat (approx 85kg). His fight name would be "Igor" as in Vovchanchyn, (similar body types) :op. He is still training when he can, and is helping me train for UC8 against John, and he will be cornering me too, so he isnt fully off the scene, just taking a different role lol

When you and 'Igor' Milward scrap a home (which I guess you inevitably do) - who wins? Or does your sister win?

Widge Milward : Me, of course!!! LOL we don't fight much now cos he has moved out! but my mum wins out of us all, she cheats by using headbutts etc... she can now defend a german suplex LOL

Is it true that your instructor, Danny Rushton wants to make a comeback and already knows who he'd like to fight?

Widge Milward : LOL, tough one, I dunno, I want him to come back, but he doesnt have the time to train like a fighter and he has some serious injury's so I dunno, he is coaching every session at the Colosseum though which is cool.

Is it true you are fighting Marios Demetriades on Extreme Force 2 in spring, 2004?

Widge Milward : LOL, yeah if you pay me £1,000,000, and Marios cuts of his arms and legs. LOL

How about we do a whip round, £35 upfront and ask Marios to duct tape his legs together? Go on. Anyway, what ever happened to Mike Tomlinson?

Widge Milward : He is still training at the Colosseum, and has entered the last Submission League, (he got a draw with Stuart Barrs) and he did Mike Gregory's CSW event, I doubt he will do MMA again though,

That's a shame, he was a tough guy. Who are the fighters to watch from the Colosseum right now?

Widge Milward : ME LOL , erm, We dont have many fighters around who actively want to compete, but the guy who should be looked out for is Matt "the Spam Javelin" Thorpe, he is gonna tear up the WW division, he has scary stand up and smooth submission skills, I just hope he can get it all together in the ring/cage.

Nice nickname. That smells of Danny Wallace too LOL. Is it true that Michael Owen is being sold to Real Madrid for 50 million quid? ;+) or is he going to Juventus for 40 million (or 35 mill, if they take Emile as well LOL).

Widge Milward : LOL, Owen isnt going anywhere, Heskey needs to be shot though LOL.

Who are the Owen and Heskey of MMA?

Widge Milward : Ian and Dave Butlin :oD

As you like all things scouse LOL, who's your favourite Atomic Kitten?

Widge Milward : LOL Jenny Frost ;op (the blonde one)

:+) OK, here are some random names. Quick thoughts on each please:

Dave Roche - very skilled fighter, be good to see him against top guys now

Lee Murray - a bad BAD man!!! future UFC MW champ!!!

Tengiz - awesome, wicked greco and GnP, needs to step up to the next level now

Gaz Roriston - cool guy, heart of a lion with skills too, been in some serious wars over the years, (Cooper and Day come to mind)

Enson Inoue - LEGEND!! and super cool guy too, love his attitude to fighting, i so hope he comes back

Gerard Houllier - Decent manager, but Liverpool need Martin O'neil though,

Nathan Leverton - very knowledgable, top instructor (me vs Nathan at a future Sub Leauge, watch out!! LOL

Neil McLoed - top fighter and nice guy top boot, IMO he is still the best 65kg fighter in the UK

Wayne Rooney - wicked player, shame is is a toffee

Genki Sudo - pure class!!! he is so good to watch,

Ian Butlin - white belt for life!!! ;op, no ian is cool, if he progresses like he is doing he will be #1 in the UK by march next yr.... but he is the ugliest butlin ;op

What's your opinion on the current state of MMA in the UK right now?

Widge Milward : we're getting there, the cards are getting better and better, and the publicicty is improving, i mean who would of though that we would have the cagecombat series? all it takes is time and patience

How do you see UK MMA in five years time?

Widge Milward : hhmm, tough Q's lets stick to food and footy LOL, i see it still growing and growing, with the way things are going hopefully CW will be on setanta, and the coverage will improve even more, oh and the northen cartel will be world famous :oP
