I
have just watched the Videos in one sitting. They are
very good from a Muay Thai stand point.
Tape
1
Tape
1 starts off by teaching 6 basic Positions i.e.:
- Inside
Position
- Neck/Bicep
Tie
- Over
and Underhook combo
- High
dbl Underhook
- Low
dbl Underhook
- Long
Rage Clinch
From
here he explains why you would use these Tie ups and
basic ways of controlling from each position.
Now
he moves onto arm weaving, which is basically much like
pummeling. He covers 5 different methods:
- Outside
to Inside Wedge
- Over
to Under Lever
- Under
to Over Lever
- Head
& Elbow Crunch
- Double
Elbow Lift
The
sad thing is that he only covers these for the Inside
Position, and not the rest of the positions.
Next
up he takes you through the proper technique for the
Long Knee, Medium knee, Curve knee and straight Upward
knee. He also explains the scenario for which each knee
would be appropriate.
The
next section he goes into Positioning and Knee counters.
This section makes the video because this is where Greg
shows how to manipulate your opponents body and set
him up for knees based upon his own attacks, it is a
bit on the defensive side but it is really solid info
that will greatly enhance your knowledge of working
knees in the clinch.
He
teaches 8 different methods for controlling, setting
up and countering your opponents knee attacks. This
info is great for a wrestler/judoka etc. who is on the
recieving end of a Thais knees.
Now
Greg gets to the interesting part, Takedowns and Throws!
Again he teaches the Takedowns and throws based upon
reacting to your opponents knee attacks. He goes through
10 techniques which are mainly in the form of sweeps
and trips (Brilliant info for a Judoka!) after using
your positioning learned earlier to off balance your
opponent.
The
great thing is that all of the 10 techniques are simple
to pull off and do not require alot of strength to use
either.
Tape
2
Tape
2 focuses more on defense forthe inside Neck Control.
The techniques are solid and I have used a few of them
in sparring the clinch on numerous occasions. Greg goes
through 8 methods altogether:
- Over
to Under
- Under
to Over
- Neck
& Trap Control
- Neck
& Trap control with Lat grab
- Head
& Elbow Crunch
- Double
Elbow Lift
- Double
Elbow Lift to Waist grab Takedown
- Double
Elbow Lift Lift to Sweep
Again
these techniques are all simple, and effective to execute.
After this Greg goes onto Side Control Counters (where
you have one arm over your opponents far shoulder and
your head under his nearest arm with your ), this information
I have never seen before and have found extremely useful
and cannot wait to start trying out next time I train.
He
shows the hip pop (not like the Greco Roman version)
to create space and break your opponents grip and then
shows the Knee, Front Head lock (questionable in Muay
Thai!), Side throw and Putar Kepala, which I believe
is some type of Indonesion Silat type takedown. It works
well enough.
Now
Greg teaches a series of counters to the double uderhook.
Starting out with Basing out to Arm Sink and then explain
how to knee from this position etc. All good info.
Now
Greg goes through 6 different Thai Pad drills to train
the knees and Clinching skills. These are all good drills
that are aimed at developing your Timing, power, speed,
entering, control etc.
Greg
finishes up the tape with a section of footage on Freeform
clinching.
Conclusion
Bottom
line: Get these videos. They are great fro anybody wishing
to learn how to clinchthat is either just starting out
or wishes to learn how to use/defend against knees in
the clinch. I wish he had covered how to work punches
and elbows into the equation but he barely touches down
on this at all.
