Vieira Extreme Jiu Jitsu DVD Leo
Vieira Extreme Jiu Jitsu DVD set review Leo
Vieira is considered one of the most technical jiu jitsu and submission fighters
in the world today: Leozinhos emphatic ADCC 2003 victory further cemented
this well deserved reputation, as he showcased his own explosive and acrobatic
style, thrilling the crowds with his original and unorthodox techniques and submissions. These
techniques have now been captured in a three set DVD/VHS compilation and from
the Extreme Jiu Jitsu series; in section one, guard passes are presented to the
viewer, consisting of closed guard passes from sitting and standing; spider guard
passes, guard passes from sweep counters; hooks inside guard passes and his trademark
star guard passes. Each technique is broken down into easy digestible sections
with technical commentary courtesy of Kid Peligro, before demonstrating each move
from start to finish. The
section volume deals with my favourite area of BJJ, sweeps and reversals and I
was not to be disappointed; Leozinho opens with a closed guard omaplata sweep,
before moving to sweeps from when the opponents stands up, to closed guard sweeps
and variations on both closed and open guard sweeps. Again, all techniques are
broken down and explained in great detail and shown step by step and in real time. Volume
three covers the mount and taking the back: Leozinho starts with a few improvements
on gaining the mount from side control, before moving on to gaining the mount
from the knee ride, variations and feints. On taking the back, Leos athleticism
comes into its own, as he shows a number of athletic ways to gain this position.
He also goes on to demonstrate different arm changes and the owl position, which
I have to say Id never seen before. Conclusion As
they saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so after viewing
the three volumes I tried some of the techniques out in class and as Leozinho
says when done right, these techniques cannot be stopped. I have to
say that the techniques I tried did work and worked well as I was able to pull
off the moves Id memorised on my students; in the glut of instructionals
that are flooding the market with the same tired old moves, this three volume
set stands head and shoulders above the rest. Many
of the techniques were new to me and this was a welcome surprise for a BJJ teacher,
as I now have some new modern techniques to study and pass on in class. The techniques
progress in a logical manner and together with Kid Peligros narration, they
open up further avenues of experimentation. My favourite volume has to be the
second one, which happened to be the volume of choice for the other instructors
and students Ive talked to who also own the set. Overall
these have to be the best BJJ instructionals out on the market today and one hopes
that Leozinho expands on the current set and release a submission wrestling series,
which Im sure will be on a par with the BJJ set and be a must have buy for
all grappling students out there. A
five star rating from the Fighting Photographer. Carl
